Interrupted (Speech)

Interrupted (Speech) was a thirty-minute one-act play written, produced, and directed by Daniel Gootnick that was part fictional and part personal memoir. It explored themes revolving around sexuality, identity, struggles, love, and loss. It relied heavily on movement direction and stream-of-consciousness monologue to show the fluidness of identity.

Our Country

Daniel Gootnick was set dresser and photographer for Annie Saunder’s 2017 play, Our Country, performed in Los Angeles.

"Based on recordings of Annie and her outlaw weed-farmer brother, this genre-bending work uses physicality and sleight of hand to conjure the childhood of America from an American childhood. The piece was commissioned by San Francisco Playhouse, and developed with crucial support from piece by piece productions and the Getty Villa."
